This is a picture of a "Sand Storm" or sometimes referred to as a "Dust Storm." These storms are caused by intense winds blowing along the desert in close proximity to the ground. When the wall of warm air hits a cold front it causes a convection current that creates an effect similar to a tornado drawing up the dust and sand into the atmosphere. April is often referred to as the "Sand Storm" month.

The planes in this photo, Ilushin Il-28 "Beagle", are remnants of the Iraqi air force, ordered from Russia in 1977 and delivered in 1980.
What military search teams eventually found here at Al Taqqadum were some 30 to 40 planes, including several MiG-25 and Su-25 ground attack jets, buried beneath more than 10 feet of soil.

This is a photo of the "crack house" as it's called here at TQ. It's located directly across from the STP, and it's called the crack house because of the numerous cracks in it. On top of the building is a flag pole that is used to fly various colored flags to indicate the present weather condition on base. Green, red, yellow and black flags depict the weather conditions, with green representing the coolest temperature to black representing the hottest temperature. On the day this photo was taken, the flag was black.
